"I bet you can't do it like me."
For the 2025 Met Gala, we were blessed with the theme, "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."
Evoked by the book, "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity," (published in 2009 by Monica L. Miller), guests of the Gala garnered Black sartorial, even historical tailorments, dating back to the 18th century~ and beyond.
Bespoke, or artisanal garments were mandated for the year's boiled-down version, "Tailored for You."
Honouring Black roots; some guests added their own sizzle to the griddle—over which I preferred to the watered-down dress code.

Here's a video summary of the event:
I (mostly) sourced images from the following two websites:
Below are the looks I gave a 'Gold Star' to.

(There are 38 photos in total.)
Starting with the Men...

Next we will explore the Duos.

Last but not least, the feminine ensembles.
From most impactful, to least.

Now bear in mind, this entire event is (subtly) dedicated to the phenomena of 'luxury slaves'.
Black Dandyism was invented in eighteenth-century England when slaveowners 'dandified' blacks, in order to project their own power. Hence the book's title 'Slaves to Fashion'.
As far as references to slavery, there weren't many as far as I could tell- other than Doechii's 'LV' brand on her upper cheek.
Fashion as a means of self-discovery; cloaking such burdened consciousness' as African Americans have survived, is what this quarter-century Gala called for: a Soulful Release.
It is up to us to keep our history intact, in order to promote the expression of what we've gathered, as humankind. Giving upcoming designers a seat at the table- whilst enlivening the diasporic American identity, is what is needed now.
The video below adds much needed context to this broad subject matter.
Enjoy!
